Both of my M50s have two tensioner pulleys and one idler pulley. All three should spin freely and silently. If any of the three seizes the results could be catastrophic. Do not drive the car until the problem is resolved. The main worry is overheating the engine. Double check the main belt routing and the condition of the pulleys with the belt removed. Again they should spin freely and silently. If any of the three are questionable, R/R. A relatively inexpensive critical part. regards
