Well, a drive belt problem doesn't really make a "rattling" noise as you've described; however, what you might be hearing is the normal BMW exhause backpressure noise common in the 3ers ESPECIALLY.. but the 5 series cars also have this noise.... if it's the same one I think.



I have a automatic 95 325is and I hear this rattling sound when the car is idleing but when I'm driving the sound goes away. The sound comes back when I'm at a stop light and then when I start driving again the sound goes away? Is this a belt problem or someone suggested that it might be bearings loose in the pulley? anyone have this problem and fixed it or know what it is and the procedure on how to fix it.
