Need help with buying tires... (archive)

I have 18" HM2's which I believe are 8.5" wide. They currently have 225/40/18's on them right now. I need to get some new tires, should I stay with this size or move up to the 235's? When I look at them, the tires look like they barely fit on the rim already (as in too small), but I am afraid if I get wider tires, they will start to rub. Also, any suggestions on which tires are most cost efficient? I was looking towards Nitto, but not sure. The car is lowered with Eibachs by the way.
