I am in the process of procuring a set of 325.1 speakers from MB Quart for the fronts (their ractory replacement set)... I am also thinking of getting the JL Stealthboxes fer the 325.
(background, right now I have an alpine 7 series head unit from last year in the dash, no amp, using the factory one right now.. I want good sound, and I know competition audio and how far you can go... I want to keep it from getting to be too big a project...)
I was wanting to garner some opinions:
What do you think of that speaker setup?
What kinda amp would you use to power them? a 4 channel with two channels for the front, the other two bridged for the JL's?
Or would you recommend a 100x4 amp to bi-amp the front speakers, throw component 4" MB Quarts (sans tweeter, only rear fill) in the back deck off of the factory amp, and a songle 12" in a sealed box in the trunk off of a 500 Watt monoblock? Is it really worth having to buy all that Dynamat?
Thanks,

Hi Steve,
I'm in a similar boat as you...I've got a stock M3 sound system and I'm starting to upgrade. The first thing I did was replace the horrible head unit with a kenwood Excelon Cassete deck. The improvement was immediate. Then I got a matching cd changer for the trunk. Then I started in on the speakers...I bought a pair of Polk DX5510 5 1/4 for the kick panel...Again, noticeable improvement. Now, I've ordered the finish for next weekend...They are replacing the tweeters with Polk DX3000s which are aimable. Then, they're putting JL Audio StealthBoxes in the rear deck replacing the stock coaxials. Finally, I'm going to power it all with the Kenwood Excelon KAC X501F 4 x 75W amp, using 75 watts to each front channel, and bridging the rears at 300 watts for the stealthboxes.....I would have liked to try and keep the rear fill, but everybody told me that the trunks in our cars is too air tight, and unless youre' willing to put a ton of watts into into it, you'll never hear it well. Hence, the stealths. I'm just hoping I dont miss the rear surround effect to much. With strong power to a good front stage, they tell me I'll never miss it.
Obviously, I would recommend you persue your first strategy....we know from several people that steathboxes work very well in our E36s. Besides, it'll save you some money, and you wont run the risk of all that extra equipment, producing unsatisfactory results from an air tight trunk.
