To me it sounds like the clutch and pressure plate are fine, what may be the problem is that the splines that clutch plate slides 'in' and 'out' on needs re-greasing as it seems to be sticking out when it is hot.

Basically the clutch slides forwards and backwards on an axle to contact and retract from the flywheel, sounds like it is getting stuck.

Bear in mind this is from doing a clutch on another car, I would never do the one oon my BMW.

Hey fellas, got a question for you. I have a 92 325is that I think the clutch is going out on it. I have taken it to a BMW mechanic and with just a 5 minute look at it (inside the car with the pedal) he thinks the clutch is fine. He says the only way to say for sure is to put the car in 4th and drop the clutch. He said that if the car stalls, the clutch is fine. If the car doesn't stall, then the clutch will have to be replaced. I would be totally unable to drive the car at that point.

Here are my symptoms:

When the car is cold, I have no problems. When the car is hot, especially on a hot day, and I have been hot pedaling it. The engine will have free reving even when the car is in gear and the clutch out. I have to let the RPM's drop almost to idle for the clutch (or whatever) to grab so I can move. I have noticed smoke on one occasion. Bad smell on 2 occasions.

What do you think?

Help a brother out...

K325is
