I usually go to my Bimmer shop (not dealer) and the reset it for free. Plus they tell you exactly why you got the code in the first place. Only takes 5 min. Just play stupid...if they charge you for 5 freaking minutes you don't want to go back. Other than the Peake Research tool, that's all you can do.
