My airbag light came on also a few months back.

I had the dealer trace the fault to a defective passenger seat belt latch.

Light was out but he minute a passenger engaged the seatbelt, the warning light came on and stayed on.

Had the latch replaced as a warranty item ... dealer said it had NO effect on the saftey/integrity of the system.
