I've owned two Toyotas since new and I find them to be reliable sporty cars. I still own and drive a '94 Celica GTS as the car has been great! Not the fastest or best handling car available but I enjoy the contrast to my '97 328i.
I test drove the much awaited IS300 and I found it to be a bit of a disapointment. I was really nice if you can get past the guages but it didn't feel as secure when cornering. Lack of a manual trans was a total frustration but I knew that going in. In short they will sell a lot of these to the civic-set. In my opinion IS300 = SUPER CIVIC SEDAN.

I drive a '97 328i with the sport package and enjoy it very much. It's fun to drive, agile, and somewhat reliable. I've had the car since it was new. Just bought my wife a 2001 Lexus IS300. This is a very nice ride. Sporty yet refined. I expect a lot of BMW sales to go the way of Lexus this year. One would give up the sports car ride but obtain a more luxurious sport sedan and my guess being a Toyota product, it'll be far more reliable.
By the way I have a Remus Sport Exhaust system on the 328...gives it the sound that I thought it should've had all along.
