Not all slush boxes are for geriatrics. I think AMG would give you a good lesson/spanking in their souped up Mercs. I haven't driven the Lexus, but I understand that it can be "put into" semi-automatic mode where you do all the shifting with a button/lever on the steering column. It even has the brains to prevent the engine from overreving if you downshift to a too-low of a gear.

The Alfa 156 comes with a "Selespeed" gearchange which is similar to the sequential one on some Ferraris, except it's allegedly "better" according to what I've read.

I think a lot of people have wrong misconceptions about the automatics. They're not all 3 speed Torqueflites used in the sixties, and seveties by NA car makers. BMW makes an excellent 5-speed auto, for example.

This said, personally I would still choose a manual, but that's because I'm biased (and old fashioned).
