1. Most likely you have 318i Automatic Transmission close gear differential. I have this also, it makes city driving accerleration much better but then on the highway the RPM's are much higher and the top speed is reduced from about 220km/h to 170km/h.

2&3. No this is not normal, as far as I know if you don't know how to replace any of the bulbs, each of the entire units must be replaced.
