I have the same problem with my obc, the numbers look distorted, I talked to a friend of my dads who is a LCD specialist and he said the display was old the cover plastic was pulling away from the actual LCD.
As for the instrument lighting I put a link to fixing uneven lighting. it sounds as though you have a bulb out. which would be no prob if you follow the directions.
by the way my 318is is manual and does 3,400rpm at 75, I think the 4 bangers need the extra rpm at speed. but hey, i think they handle better than 325s and 328s
