I was debating between a 328 and an A4 1.8/2.8. Both are great cars.

Stock for Stock, the 328 is faster than both Audi's in every respect. The A4 2.8 felt more luxurious than the 328, but the A4 2.8 is slower and not very upgradable. Not that I really care about leather, but leather is not available in the A4 1.8 (at least not in Canada).

If I were to get an A4 it would be the 1.8. Stock it is a slow but exciting engine. It is very upgradable, reaching 200 hp with just a chip upgrade. I am not sure how what the numbers would look like comparing a modified A4 1.8 vs 328 but it would be close. Most A4 1.8's have Quattro which is a nice feature but makes it a slower in most driving condiditons.

For me, what it came down to was reliability. It's my opinion that a Stock 328 is more reliable than a modified A4 1.8. Plus the 328 has lots of torque for nice daily driving.

Granted you can pick up an A4 1.8 for less than a 328, but after modifying engines in most of my recent cars I wanted somthing out the box that was fast (relativley speaking).

Just my opinion.
