droppiong clutch at 5k means this.

1) you are at a stop
2) you have ASC off
3) you have the shifter in 1st
4) the clutch is depressed
5) you rev the engine up to 5000rpms
6) you release the clutch
7) you have massive wheelspin

those are the directions for dumping the clutch at 5k. want to dump at 3k, subsitutue that number when revving your engine.

doing the occasional 3k dump is better than the 5k, but still not something you should do repeatedly. 5k is even worse. i found feathering the clutch at 2500 rpms works just fine when i went drag racing.

as for letting your gears slow you down from 4th to 4rd. it should hurt the engine. this is assuming you make a clean downshift and not feather the clutch when coming down in speed. my personal style is dependant of what i want to accomplish. if i am coming to a stop light, i will put the car in neutral and use the brakes. if i want to take a turn quicker or trying to slow down, but not completely, i will downshift and use engine braking and regular brakes at the same time.

you should be fine.
