windows on 318is (archive)

When opening the door on my 318is (and I suppose all E36 coupes) the window drops about a half inch when the door handle is engaged. This allows the window to clear the window channel and trim. The problem I'm having is that when either door handle is engaged both windows drop - not just the one being opened. Any idea what could be causing this?
