Well as you know, knowbody makes intakes for 318s. one night after racing one of my friends in his honda accord w intake I decided I have to have one. Now I dunno aboutyour 318 but mine has the M42 engine which has a Hot air meter that bolts on to the back of the airbox. it is about 4x4 and has a Square adapter, which really sucks, but it is something you can work with. the adapter can be purchased from BMPD.com heres the Telephone #(800) 648-7278) they specializes in bmw custom parts. if you have the M44 engine you won't need this.

The next item you will need is a K&N cone filter preferably the 8" cone. I ran the whole intake down behind the front foglight and this is the only size that would fit. The reason, nobody makes heat shields for 318s and It would be difficult to make one that would be truely airtight additionally, this is the very best source for cold unrestricted air. I got my Cone filter from summit racing only because their shop is like 10 min from my house. You could get it from and auto shop or find it on the net.

The 3rd thing you will need is a custom bent madrel pipe. Just go to your local muffler shop and have the guy bend it for you so the pipe runs down behind the bumper with the filter attached. no biggie. Also make sure you get some of those clamps that have a screw to tighten them. Basically my pics should help you more than this letter.

I highly recomend doing this mod, the power increase is marginal but the sound the new filter setup creates is amazing!! It makes the 4 banger sound incredable! and the best part is it only does this when you get on the throttle, so it's not annoying like those little rice rockets you hear going down the street, you can actually control how much sound your car makes.
