Wow, this takes me back. 1994 or 1995 IIRC

Back then, the deal was if the dealer could run a sharpened pencil across the crack, without the pencil lead getting caught by the crack, they would replace the lense.

Now I haven't heard of this for a loooong time, and I never met anyone who passed the test either.
