what are some INEXPENSIVE(CHEAP) ways to make a regular 3-series have as good as performance of a ///M3??

there are none. that's why the M3 costs more. if you're willing to shell out the $$$ for your 3 series you can definetely make it faster / perform better than an M3, but probably for more $$$ than the price difference between your 3 series and a M3 of the same year.

The price difference between an used 328is and an used M3 of the same year can be less than $5k....that's probably less than how much you'd spend on parts alone (M3 style kit (front, spoiler, skirts), mirrors, wheels, rims, suspension, intake, chip, exhaust, etc). Then you also gotta get the spoiler, skirts and front painted, the parts installed....all that can easily cost you 10 grand or more, which was about the original price difference between a new 328is and an M3 (from ~$36k to ~$46k).

If you just want it to go faster w/o regard for looks, I'd say mess with the intake and exhaust (~$1-1.5k) and get the chip (~$500). That should give you anywhere from 40 to 60HP increase, putting it in line with an M3, and probably will cost you less than $2k to buy and install if you're lucky. more like $3k if the mechanic charges a buck to work on your bimmer (the way many do). but definetely don't take it to a shitty mechanic that has no bimmer experience...pay the extra $$$ if you have to.
