if u put it in M, and put it in first, it wont cause any unwanted upshifts in the car, thats all its for. And if u put it in third or D, it stays in that gear no matter what, so it would be hard to take off in 3rd or D. Hope i helped. BTW, u dont have an auto, thats just what i read.

I do have an automatic. But is hase a switch under the shifter that looks like a window switch that is labeled A on the top and M on the bottom.
