1. Wet sand it around the letters with 800 grit sand paper.
2. Clean it with rubbing alcohol
3. Buy some *good* clear coat in a can.
4. Mask off all the area's around it sucha as the license plate, the break light, windows, etc..
5. Spray on the clear coat where the letters were and fade out into the old clear coat.

6. Let it dry for 48 hours and then wax and buff it out.

If done right, you'll never even known there was letters there.

WARNING: Don't sand through the clear coat that IS there.. (i.e. once the water from wet sanding becomes the color of your car then you need to back off a little in the area)

Hope it helps.

P.S. My clear coat was "flaking" on my side mirros so this is how I fixed it.
