I'm gonna tackle this prob. soon. BMW tech procedure (Water in E-Box) is to drill a third drain hole & replace 1 & install 1 larger i.d. drain hose, but that's pretty messy since lot's of stuff has to come off the head to get access. First make sure you don't already have the 3rd drain. BMW says cars manuf. after 6/94 have the xtra hose.

First thing I did was to take a long length of 1 cm or so i.d. hose & feed it down the left drain a ways, through the air intake screen/cover (just below wshield). Then I pressfit it up to my garden hose nozzle to get a hi pressure blast & flushed the drain hose out to make sure it drained well. I'm gonna do this every 6 months-1 yr. or so.

Next thing on the agenda is to take off the dme cover, inspect how the e-box floods & maybe look to seal up any bulkhead seams with silicone. There's a gasket you can see from inside the air intake so maybe it floods thru there, don't know.

I don't like the "seal the dme in a bag" idea either, because of pot. for overheating it (just a thought). But if the box can't be sealed, I wouldn't mind finding a plastic box (topless) of the right size, cutting a notch for the cable, laying the dme in there & siliconing the cable watertight. At least the water'd have to rise another few inches to get to the dme that way. Assuming there's room for a box like that.

Just ideas for now. Let us know if you come up with a great fix. Lot's of us I'm sure, would like to hear it.

How can i preven my DME from getting wet again, someone stated that they wrapped it in plastic, doesnt it get hot though? is ther any other way to seal the enclosure it resides in? silicone sealant perhaps? any ideas anyone?
TIA

Val
