You got a good price. BMW engines are built very solid. Unless someone really abuses the car, the motor and tranny should be OK. Although I cannot diagnose the oil leak for you, a trip to your mechanic should help. But the way I look at it is, it's your car now so you better enjoy it. Fix whatever needs to be fixed and enjoy the drive home. Life is too short to worry about past decisions.
