The e30 91 and e36 92 both have the m42 motor
Anything from 95 onward has the m44 (1.9) motor which is a little more torquey but does not have that kick or boost at 4000revs plus it's an obd2 thus it cannot be chipped....I'm not convinced that the downloads work stay put
However it's your call

HEY. I have an 86 325es which i am looking 2 sell. i am interested in purchasing either a 91 or 92 318. It changed from e30 to e36 in 92, and i cant choose between body sytles. I am an e30 enthusiast, and i dont know alot about e36's. I am interested in an i or is though. I am looking to performance tune and modify either one, and the only reason i didnt do that 2 my 325es is because of the e engine, and the expensive m20 engine rebuild. I did consider an m50 engine swap also. i dont know which 2 do, the engine swap, the 91 318is or the 92 318 is. If you know some differences/disadvantages/advantges of the 91 as compared 2 the 92 please let me know so i can help decide. also, if anyone knows the highest rated hp listing ( other words the best engine that was produced for the e36 318, please let me know. thanx. nolan
