I went from 205/60/15 on genuine BMW alloys to 235/40/17 on M3 replicas.
At motorway speeds, the extra drag from the wider tyres has a noticeable impact on acceleration. City driving nothing really noticeable. I think it is the extra drag from the wide tyres, not the weight, which is the cause. If you get some high quality alloys like BBS which are quite light, you will minimise the weight impact.

The wide tyres look truly awesome and I'm happy. You could fit a chip or something to compensate for loss of acceleration.
