Pull the center piece out and then remove the 2 screws. The remaining ashtray unit will pull out. BE CAREFUL, pull slightly on the little ashtray light before trying to pull ashtray from car! Once out look at the driver's side of the ashtray. You will see a curved lever bar and a tiny metal pin. Lubricate the plastic bar with liquid wrench and make sure the little metal pin is straight (straighten with needle-nose if needed). Move the lever bar back and forth to work in oil. Make sure it does actually close before re-inserting (may need more oil or penetration time). That fixed my 325's annoying ashtray gremlin and should fix yours!
