Basically it's MTl that meets ATF specifications. I changed over to it at 30k, and it feels great.

It's starting to approach time to consider the Inspection II on our 328iS. The major items I'm thinking of are the spark plugs and fluids in 5 spd and differential.

Now the owners manual is a little confusing on the manual transmission fluid and thus my post:

All the owners manual states is "ATF fluid (specs avail from any BMW Service facility)". HUH? Automatic Tranny Fluid in the 5 Speed? Is This For Real or a Typo? I would have presumed good ol' 75W90 GL4. There's a lot of advancements in ATFs these days and most automakers are very very specific as to which type of ATF to use (in their automatic trannies and power steering but not 5 speeds). Plain old generic ATF is still around of course but relatively dated these days. Though I'll call the dealer manana, I sure need a sanity check on this one folks! And why can't they put the darn specs in the manual anyway? All my other car manuals have plenty of details. OK I've vented enough.

Thanks,
-Todd

PS: Since my owners manual is a little vague on a few details can someone give me a sanity check on my presumptions below:

Anti-Freeze: ethylene-glycol (green) (hinted in book)
Power Steering: generic power steering fluid
Brake Fluid: DOT4 (this one's in the book)
Engine Oil: API SH/SJ* (SH is in the book)
Differential Oil: 75W90 GL5 (book says "HD" only)
Manual Transmission Oil:
Spark Plug: Bosch F7 LDCR / NGK BKR 6 EK (in book)
Bearing Grease: Moly EP (?) (nothing in manual)

*My book only shows an ambient temp range up to about 90F. In the desert southwest we routinely spend much of the day well into 3 figures and I use 15W50 rather than BMW's recommended 15W40.
