1st change to synthetic (archive)

Hi,

I changed from regular to synthetic at 41K. My mechanic said I was OK until 51K (mainly due to BMW's high-tech oil filteration system). I read a post saying something about after the 1st change to synthetic, you should change after just 1K miles because it "cleans" your engine (after the 1st change, others at 8K-10K increments). Whoa, why didn't my mechanic tell me this?? (he worked for the BMW dealer for 18 years before opening his own shop). It is a 1998 318i.
