9:52PM PST Northbound on 405 from Jefferson to the West bound 10 Freeway, Nov. 17, 1999. This is in Los Angeles, CA. Along with the 996Twin Turbo Porsche at B.H. Porsche, this makes some outrageous cars in our LA, Ca area right now. Wow! Two of us in the car, my VW saw the following:
Details that could be seen/witnessed:
Interior: Orange gauges, weird headrests that angled from the base where the posts are, and pointed at the drivers head. Sort of like the Volvo curved ones. I do not know if these are normal equip. in a E46 3 Series.
Engine: Sounded deep/resonate, not loud at all like most aftermarket exhausts. The car was going a steady 70MPH. Bah!
Driver: Male in his early 50's, alone.
Exterior:
California Dealer Plates. 2 Door. 4 Exhaust Tips in two sets of two (like M5). No badging except rear BMW trunk lid symbol. Black, but very flat looking...not primer black though. NO cool little vents(like Z3) on the front quarter panels like in the silver concept car pictures. Xenon lights. HUGE ass wheels, but couldn't tell which ones because the car was in motion. Wheel arches flared a bit, and a big flat lower airdam similar to E36 M3, but with a bigger rectangular opening in the middle: real big. My passanger said:"Those wheels look bigger than Danny's E55!", and those are AMG 18's my friends. Looked real nice and pretty low too. Not racer boy low as in Touring Car wanna-be, but no wheel/fender gap low. Forgot to try to see the side mirrors. Tail lights looked normal E46 style, but I cannot be sure.
Thats about it. If I remember anything else, I'll post. Tomorrow, I am going to head down to Santa Monica BMW and see if they have this car, or know of it. When B.H. Porsche was approached about having several new disguised 996 Twin Turbos, they said flat out "yes" we have them, and even allowed some pictures to be taken. I hope BMW is as forthcoming. So what does this mean? M3 version sooner rather than later? Maybe an updated M3 before a more limited super M3? Your guess is as good as mine.
