I have also seen test/protoype cars long before they come out in the general area of West LA.
About 2 years before the X5 came out, I saw a black one with the camoflauge taping around the front and back, but I could still tell it was the X5.
Also, my friend said that he saw a Z8 out here too. I don't think they are at the dealers... there might be some BMW testing facility out here or something.
