Let's think about what we know about the new E46 M3 so far:

o Front fenders will probably have the "gills" that the show car has, i.e. different parts. If you look at the latest spy shots published in the Roundel, you'll see that the E46 M3 prototype shown in that picture has the gills, but that they're duct-taped... Also, the wheel wells are flared, so again: different parts there.

o Hood: power dome => different part. Also, supposedly made out of lighter material. Again, different part.

o Rear fenders: flared wheel wells => different parts.

o Doors: made out of lighter material => different part.


Sounds like almost no common body panels to me... What am I missing?

: It would be way to expensive to produce all different forms of similar car. Look at ford Ls jag plus many more to share SAME PLATFORM. BMW does not have the recourses to make 5 or 6 ALL new car the same size and in the same market segment -- it is just not logical! However, I think it WILL have some neat features such as hood fender air intakes, but nothing that is not ALREADY feasible in a Ci.
