Worried about 2001 m3 (archive)

I love the way that the e46 m3 looks but I am hesitant to put in my order. I know they were having troubles working out the engine. What if they make the v8 work for 2002? I am sure the 2001 engine will be an amazing engine but I am hesitant to go with the first year production. I see this as a similar situation to the '95 having a 3.0 and the '96 having a 3.2. Does anyone know anything I don't that could help me make up my mind what to Do? I'm ready for the new one but I don't want to be kicking myself after a year or two b/c I didn't wait.
