E46 M3 Decision (archive)

This may be a little odd, but here goes. I am sure someone else has the same issue.

I have a 97 E36 M3. I am on two dealer lists in my area for the E46 M3, hope like everyone else to have by this time next year.

problem...I need a set of winter tires/rims for my current car. 16" set is 30-40% cheaper, will work better. But, if i step up to the 17" set, they MIGHT fit on my E46 M3 next year. Anyone have any idea of what chance a 17" set will have of working on the E46 M3?
