I know this is probably elementary, but i think it answers the question: The tires that come stock on the M3 are NOT all season. The tread has one purpose alone: water drainage. There are no sipes to grip ice, there are no lugs to dig into snow, and the compound gets hard as glass in cold. Even if there is no snow on the roads, a freezing cold day can still compromise safety driving on performance "summer tires". On the days that it is cold in your area or when there is snow on the road, you probably can make it by keeping the performance tires on the car. But if you are attempting to navigate to work in those conditions, you will find that all the ABS and traction control in the world can't generate grip where there is none. Those electronic helps are only as good as the tires you are sitting on!
