Will the E46 M3 jump in 911 territory? (archive)

I know the E46 M3 is not even out on the market yet and it will be some time before we actually see it hit our shores. I'm just wondering since most of us know some stats on the car (I-6, 340 HP)it looks like it might be closing into the 911 market. What do you guys think? Price wise there will be a big difference but performance wise I'm wondering if the BMW R&D department wants target against the 911. I'm a E36 M3 owner and I know that my model is a notch down from the 911. I'm just looking to see what you guys think. All comments / opinions welcome.
