: I know the E46 M3 is not even out on the market yet and it will be some time before we actually see it hit our shores. I'm just wondering since most of us know some stats on the car (I-6, 340 HP)it looks like it might be closing into the 911 market. What do you guys think? Price wise there will be a big difference but performance wise I'm wondering if the BMW R&D department wants target against the 911. I'm a E36 M3 owner and I know that my model is a notch down from the 911. I'm just looking to see what you guys think. All comments / opinions welcome.

My guess is that BMW will leave the M coupe to take on the 911 (until they no longer make the coupe). I expect the E46 M3 to be a bit slower than the 911 0-60, but the M3 will have a HP advantage (but a weight penalty).
