I was told by a salesdroid at Allison BMW that they will not be marking up the M3 but that if I wanted an M5 it would be sticker plus 10k. He told me that BMW dealers are restricted by the factory from marking up cars over sticker. Is this pure bullshit?

: Stevens creek BMW basically agreed. You cannot negotiate the price yet, at least not until next summer. I highly doubt BMW allows dealer markups. It only benefites the dealership but puts a marr on BMW's reputation. Steven's creek is taking $500 for getting on the waiting list, and that entitles you to choosing the color, options, and a test drive when the car arrives on the lot next fall before you make your decision. If after your test drive you're not slobbering all over the floor, then they'll just return you the deposit and wait for the next lucky customer. This is true as long as you don't pick a pink car with orange interior of course ;)

:
: : : Just wondering for those of you who put down deposit, do you negotiate the price of the car? If yes, how much is it?
: : : I am afraid that the dealers in Bay area here will be mark up the price for +10K or even more............

:
: : You can't negotiate the price because nobody knows where to negotiate from. BMW has not announced a price or any options as of yet. The dealer in the Bay Area at which I am on the waiting list claims that it is against their policy to charge a dealer markup on any car (with the exception of the Z8, which is sold "at market price" kinda like lobster). I got the impression that this is BMW's policy as a company. If not so, just go to Sonnen BMW in Marin and talk to Henrica, a wonderful German lady that really knows her stuff and is extremely freindly and accomidating. Tell her Kevin from Lucasfilm sent you. She PROMISED me that I'd pay MSRP on the M3 just like my roomate did on his new 328Ci. Good luck.
