: I've long been very interested in getting the next 345 HP M3, HOWEVER, I drove the 2000 Vette Coupe yesterday, it was damn fast and rumbled quite a bit, handling was neither perfect nor poor... overall I was quite pleased (despite its heritage). I can leave with one very loaded for $45,000 total in the very near future. The next M3 will likely be over $50-55k after taxes, is quite a wait to get one, and may be equally fast at best. Do you think I should be impatient and get the vette, or wait for the M3? Also, what about the 2001 vette with 425 HP (see my previous post below)? That will surely be a killer for the M3's price. WHAT TO DO???
If price is a big issue for you, I'd say go with the vette. But in my opinion, that's the only criteria in which the vette will beat the M3 on.
What you will get for the extra cost in the M3 will be handling. Someone once told me this, and it really is true in today's cars:
Anyone can make a car go fast in a straight line; it's in the turns and bends that you really discover what a automobile is made of.
Trust me, with the way the E36 M3 handled, and with the additional output from the E46 M3's engine, the new car will be a perfect balance between power and control. And that is what you'll be paying for :-)
