Im a 328ci owner living and working in Hamburg, Ive had my car about a month now, love it but want a lot more power.
My dealer rings me last Thursday and says that they are now taking names for official orders and do I want to play? Well ah yes!!
He has no official brochure yet but expects there to be one around February time, I will scan and post as soon as is available. This is information that he gave me, I dont know if he was talking crap or what, personally I doubt it but any way..he said that Munich was still undecided as to the final engine size and that it would either be for Europe 3.5 or possible 3.7 litres, producing around 350bhp with a 0/100kmh (62mph) time fractionally quicker than the E36 time of 5.5, he thoght 5.2 as being possible, but 4.7 etc to be a little optimistic. He also indicated that as Porsche no longer had a limiter of 155mph on its cars (ie 911 range)then both BMW and Mercedes were going to follow suit and remove the top end limiter which again he estimated will be around 285kmh (180mph). He said that the M3 that you guys get in the states will not be the same engine performance wise as the European model, he talked of noise and emmision problems being the reason for this, I dont know how this compares to other info that you guys have recieved? I mean do you have the M5 over there? if so I dont see why you shouldnt get the full blown M3? He expects me to get my car (I will be one of the first in Europe) in either August or September, (I told him to forget delivery to Hamburg, Ill be in Munich when it comes off that line waiting!!!)
By way of a side line he said that there would be no 4 door version as there was with the E36, that the M5 would NOT be made available as a coupe! and that the new 8 series would be getting a 5 litre V12 engine. There was also some talk of 6 series revival though details were sketchy.
Well thats what he said soooo!! the long 9 month wait starts for me!!
As always if your reading this in the UK and want to buy a bimmer in Germany then mail me for details (FREE!!) of a very friendly dealer!!
