: this is just guess work. there have been mentions that the us m3 will have lower output than the euro m3. this could be a possible explanation: bmw only officially declared a "world engine", and not world hp rating. with the US emissions requirements, a number of cars differ (though only slightly) in terms of hp output between the US and Euro versions. For example, Audi S4 (250 vs 265) and Ferrari f355 (375 vs 380). while these are small differences which should not affect performance very much, it is perhaps the reason that some people have been hearing about different output.
