I appreciate the "flameless" discussion here. i certainly liked the way the E36 M3 handles - but I like the way the E46 328i sport handles better. A bit softer- no quite as harsh. In terms of residual value - you are probably right - no doubt - BMW has a much bigger following and it should be easy to move a used M3 easier than an S4. However, I think the S4 is a keeper (at least till the RS4 comes to the US/If Audi will bring it here). If it makes it here...the M3 (E46) will most certainly be moved to second place once it regains it with the intro of the new car. All in all - this good for us consumers - competition means better products for all of us.
: I agree with almost everything you said.....with just a few exceptions/additions.

: 1. The M3 handles better then the S4.
: 2. The M3 will have a better resale value (based on current used Audi pricing, S4 residuals and what I have read).

: You see, I considered selling my 1996 911 Cabriolet for a S4 but didn't for these 2 reasons.
: I think the S4 is a wonderful machine that deserved to come out on top. The quattro system makes an incredible difference...it was no accident that it was banned from the racing circuit. I just wish the S4 had a better steering "feel" to it and wasn't quite so "soft". However, that can be corrected and with a chip that car will haul some serious ass.
