: I've heard that wheels with very low profile tires (such as 40- and 45-profile tires on the E36 M3) are prone to getting bent by potholes (common here in the East). Is this enough of a problem that getting slightly higher-profile tires (say, 225/50-16's) for the E46 M3 makes sense? Obviously, a different set of wheels would be needed as well. I realize there's a performance trade-off (as compared with the stock tires/wheels), but I'm not someone who would be taking the car to its limits anyway.
1) 16" rims will not fit on the M3. besides the E46 will probably come with 35 series 18" rims
2) Since you say- "I'm not someone who would be taking the car to its limits anyway", why not get a 330 next summer? It will be fairly close to the performance of the E36 M3.
