Once BMW decides on a pricepoint, they can adjust the interior amenities such that the cost of the car matches the target price. If the performance of the car is there, and the price is there, prospective M3 buyers may bitch and groan that the sound system is lousy or that they expected standard leather, or whatever. But they'll buy because of performance and price.
: I think there are a few reasons they do this. One is that interior design is more 'trendy' than exterior. What is hot and cutting edge this year may be old news by next fall. Two, interior design is much easier to be fickle with than exterior panels and design. So, they may still be working on that portion of the car. There is a lot less lead-time to put carbon-fiber on a dash board than to put a 3.4L engine together. That means that it would be easier for another company to steal the BMW thunder if they saw the design at an auto show.
: These are just a few guesses on my part. Do with them what you like.
: : why does BMW display the outside of the car (m3) in auto shows and photo's and keep the inside a secret? Is it just industry tradition? What possible marketing purpose is there in a mystery seat or mystery dashboard? If it is similar to the 323i328i, fine, if not, let us get introduced to the new ideas.
