: The E46 cabrio will be out next spring (ie before the M3). The new 5er is due in 2002. The new Z3 is due in 2003. (Both of those model years). I think a new 7er is due in MY01 if I am not mistaken.

the idea of another engine in the e46 line up makes perfect sense to me, since there is alot of marketing room between the proposed 330i 220hp and the proposed m3 @ 345hp.
Still being new to BMW and the m series in particular, does a different engine mean a different badge? for example, an m1 or m2? is there precedent in the bmw system to have one car, like the m3, offered with 2 different engines?
