So, if your dealer does indeed have an allotment of 100 M3's, he'll get them whether or not they're pre-ordered. Anywhere, USA dealer will also get whatever his allotment is, but since it's likely that HIS cars won't be entirely pre-sold, a high-volume dealer may arrange an inter-dealer trade with Anywhere, USA to get more M3's.

: : Does anybody know how many dealers are there in the US? I am just trying to get an idea about how many people are on the waitlist for the new M3 in the US... Also does anybody know the approximate production rate for these cars? I know you can not really say because they have started making them yet, but do you expect it to be somewhat like the prod rate for the Ci's? How many car per week do they make of those, anyways? ...Just trying to get an idea on how long this insane demand for the M3 will last, so maybe I can finally get one for myself :)

: The sales manager tossed out a hopeful figure of 100 BMW's for the calendar year as his anticipated (hoped for) allotment, when I was putting down my deposit last month. This is for Boston metro's only BMW dealer (there are 2 other dealers in the suburbs, within 15-20 miles of downtown). Since I am #7 on the list it would appear there are only about 93 slots after me in downtown Boston's dealer, for the first 52 delivery weeks. These are guesses but I would suppose the cars will go to the dealers who have people on lists ready to fork over the balance, and not to dealers who are going to park them on lots. So, I am guessing also that if a dealer has a list of deposits it may influence what their allotment might be. Otherwise, somebody in anywhere, USA could by chance put a deposit down in JUne 2000 and be #1 on ANYWHERE, USA Bmw's list and get their car before somebody in Boston (me) who put his deposit down in Nov 1999. Let's hope it does not work that way but I guess we will see. Maybe there will be such a demand the cars will only be built per order. When I was in the showroom, the x5 wait list was already 55.
