At the risk of opening myself up to untold flames and abuse, I thought I would share a brief convo I had with a Heishman (I think...) BMW person this afternoon at the DC Auto Show.
I have been following the debates in this forum with some interest, because one of these decades I'll probably buy an E46 M3. Anyway, the chief thing I was curious about, based upon occasional reading here, was whether the M3 would get an 8 or a 6.
So I ask the Heishman person (very nice lady whose name escapes me) and she says a 6 - altho bigger than the one now (I have no clue what the engine codes are for your new-fangled toys, sorry :)). I said "really? You mean the E46?" and she says YES, and mentions something about a production schedule she has or some jumbo like that.
So, some more gossip for y'all. Sorry if someone actually came up with something definitive already or if I'm repeating something, YMMV, caveat emptor, etc etc.

PS She also said a 2002 will be built in 2002 (YES!!) and that she has heard of no firm plans for a new 6 series coupe.
