FYI for those of you who drive a 1999 M3.
Today, 12/27/99, in the Wall Street Journal, there is a small recall notice on page B8.
"17,000 M3's made in 1999 have defective side airbags and Head Protection Systems (HPS). They can deploy without an actual side crash. This could be caused by such things as hitting a large pothole or a curb at substantial speed.
BMW is not expecting to begin notifying M3 owners about this problem until January 2000. Nevertheless, your dealer may be willing to correct this safety hazard before then, if you ask. If the dealer does not correct the defect, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-327-4236.
34,000 1999 323i and 328i cars also have this defect, but notification of owners of these cars began last April. 323i and 328i owners should also ask that this defect be corrected immediately."
Happy driving everyone,
Kamy
