Well not necessarily...high revving "low torque" (like 250-260 is not enough!?!) cars tend to have lower overall gearing, i.e. lower rear end ratios. Thus the final ratio in 5th gear is going to be lower than if you were driving a torque monster like a camaro or something. What you're talking about is again....torque curve....if you have a car with a really peaky torque curve...that's where at speed response will hurt you. BMW I6's typically don't have a problem with that. I do see your point though, but I don't think the new E46 is going to disappoint in the torque area :)
