: To me the new M3 is too heavy,
The new M3 won't be much heavier than the new E46 coupe. The extra hp, refined suspension, and low profile 18" wheels will most likely make it feel like a lighter car than it is.
I also, believe it or not prefer the Integra Type-R over the new BMW M3. Why? Because driving the Type R is a more involving experience.
I'm not sure what "more involving" means to you. But I'm guessing you mean that you have to rev it up to get performance out of it, ala the E30 M3. The new M3 will have a higher redline than the E36 M3, more like the E30 M3 around 8000 rpm or so.
: On the track, the M3's overall balance is flawed: it often strays into either slight understeer or snap oversteer. You are endlessly making slight steering corrections, to keep the show on the road, continuously playing with the throttle to alter the cars behaviour.
Everything I've read indicates the opposite. i.e. Car and Driver's article in '97 that chose the M3 as the Best Handling car at any price.
"A flawless handler."
"The M3 covers for you. The suspension shrugs off bumps, swells, and off-camber depressions without upsetting the line. Not once did any driver cross it up. Smith "Over cooked a corner, and the BMW's forgiving nature made it interesting rather than scary." Even at the hairy edge of traction, the M3 is accepting of further driver input, which builds tremendous confidence. Unlike the NSX, the Viper, or even the F355, you feel free to explore the M3's limits witout fear that something awful awaits if you miscalculate"
"The M3 is like one of those mules that pull tour duty in the Grand Canyon, year after year: It isn't capable of a misstep. this car lets you seek out its limits quicker and more confidantly than any of the other cars here. If that doesn't make for a winning handler, we don't know what does."
Just some commments.
