But no, I don't think it could take on a newer M3 and consistently beat it in all-around performance comparisons. A really good driver in the R could smack an M3 back home to mama, but if you've two great drivers than I bet the BMW would take the cake most of the time.

Or at least one would hope that would be the case, considering what the cost of the E46 M3 will be.
If I paid that much, I'd want to eat Type-Rs for breakfast, too. :^)
