This is like IBM crippling the PC Junior so it wouldn't compete with their mainstream PC's! These cars already do appeal to somewhat different audiences. The 3-series, smaller, presumably more agile. The 5's, larger, more luxurious. I don't see why these two can't co-exist, with a wide price margin, and even a small performance margin. I would never advocate crippling one product to 'protect' the space of another. Either the 5 must compete on its own, or BMW will realize that the 3 is what people want. But I think that the market will accept them both for what they are! Price difference and all.
