Guess Automobile mag was mistaken then. :-) But I wouldn't write off a favorable comparison between the base 996 and the M3 just yet. No one knows just yet what is in the new car.

: The new M3 is going to be a great car but the brakes and suspension will not allow it to run with even a base 911 on the track.
: Even the current Euro M3 Coupe with upgraded brakes (over the US version) is 18 seconds slower on the Nuerburgring Nordschleife than a 996 (with the same driver on the same day). It's even 7 seconds slower than a 993.
: However, it is a HELL of a lot cheaper and will confortably seat 4 adults while providing supercar-like performance...just as it was designed to do.
